The Funeral(The original title Uncle Bob's Funeral) is first episode of Outnumbered Series 4. It features the return of the Brockman family two years after the last series.

Synopsis

The Brockman family have some tough decisions to make about work, video games and who to take to a family funeral. The vicar probably wishes none of them had ever come. Sue has a giggling fit during the service due to a memory of her mother, and it is revealed that Pete has "resigned" from his job as a history teacher.

Plot

Pete, Ben and Jake compete at Wii game 'Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games'. Pete keeps losing to them. Meanwhile, Karen argues with Sue and makes her feel guilty because she has to work full time. Then Gran arrives, and embarrases Pete once again before telling him that he has to do the eulogy in Uncle Bob's funeral. Pete changes the eulogy as it does not mention Uncle Bob's partner, Bernard, who he has been with for fourteen years.

Worried that it will upset Dorothy, Pete is in two minds whether to mention him. Pete has also quit his job and Sue tries to convince him to get it back. Jake asks if he can come to the funeral, leading to both Karen and Ben coming too. Pete decides to change the eulogy so he mentions Uncle Bob's partner Bernard, but at the funeral some strict words from Sandra makes him change his mind again. Karen is worried that Uncle Bob is still alive in his coffin, and is going to be burnt alive. Her and Ben discuss methods of letting people survive if they are still alive in their coffins.

Ben also mistakes a hog roast for a cremation. In the service, Sue breaks down laughing, and Pete tells everyone that she did it at her mother's funeral. The vicar is obsessed with making the eulogy shorter than two minutes, and when Pete does mention Bernard, he tells Pete that he prefers to stay out of the limelight. Later that night, Pete wins at the Wii before accidentally smashing the telly with the remote.
